Blanket

Last year, MAPPA released an amazing adaptation of the classic manga Banana Fish. The series is set in New York City in the mid 1980’s and follows street gang leader Ash Lynx as he uncovers a criminal conspiracy linked to “banana fish”, a drug that brainwashes its users. Along the way he meets Eiji Okumura, a Japanese photographer’s assistant who becomes his close ally.

In English, blanket refers to a white woollen cloth or flannel used for wrapping and covering. The term is also figuratively used to refer to someone who covers another person with their authority or power: 'Mr. Jenkins, your blanket authority is too heavy for me'. (Episode 1 of Banana Fish) Also a phrase used in prison to describe a fellow inmate who is suspected of snitching: 'Attack the blanket stiff!'. (You can purchase the apron and mug online, with prices starting at 8,800 yen.) A black coach jacket and white striped bag have been released as well, costing a slightly lower 2,000 yen.
